Description:

In the SMART-subproject, the following activities were involved:
The first part of the project was to support the initiation of leisure activities and tourism on the Markkleeberg lake – with infrastructure improvements through sign-posting (using a Corporate Design for the lake), bank, bicycle parking, etc. The second part dealt with visitor and environmental education – because of the fast and far reaching changes, a promotion of a better understanding of the general public on landscape (re)design and restructuring through the creation of information displays, organisation of excursions and a short project publication was planned. The third part of the subproject dealt with the question, how nature protection can be integrated into revitalisation efforts of the visitors – mainly at the southern shoreline.

DIADYMA’s role:

In the first phase, DIADYMA analyzed the existing EU and national legislation on mine-sites and with the Greek Public Enterprise of Electricity searched ways of re-establishment of mines as spaces of common utility. Then, explored options of redevelopment of these areas into technological and environmental parks where historical retrospection of the mines can be presented, from the beginning of excavation until their abandonment and re-establishment.
