Electrical & Electronic Waste Management

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) has been identified by the European Commission as a priority waste stream, mainly due to its hazard, rapidly increasing volume due to technological advances, increasing product variety and large growth of their sales.

In the Region of Western Macedonia, as a single management unit for WEEE, DIADYMA SA as the implementing body of the Integrated Waste Management System and in collaboration with the approved Collective Systems for the Alternative Management (Waste) of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) of "Appliances Recycling s.a." and "Fotokiklosis s.a.", based on the provisions of Law 2939/2001 and P.D. 117/2004 as in force, promotes the actions for the implementation and operation of a rational system of alternative management of WEEE with the aim of protecting the environment and ensuring public health.

The collection is carried out by placing in appropriate collection points, a suitable collection medium (collection container for bulky devices, folding metal pallet boxes, plexiglass containers, bins, metal box for lamps, cartons, etc.). Licensed collectors / transporters undertake the transport of WEEE with destination the WEEE Collection Centers - temporary storage points. Temporary storage points, where the WEEE is received and initially inspected and operates under the supervision of the relevant Alternative Management System, are also Local Waste Management Units (LWMU) of DIADYMA, where the WEEE is collected by the municipal cleaning services that have been placed and collected in special garbage cans, following a relevant agreement of DIADYMA SA, with the relevant Alternative Management System of WEEE, of the Appliance Recycling SA. The collected WEEE is sorted and transported for further processing to properly licensed processing units.
