Description:
Priority Axis PRIORITY 1 – A greener and more resilient Greece–Albania cross-border region Specific Objective RSO2.6 – Promoting the transition to a circular and resource-efficient economy
The CIRCLE project promotes the transition to a circular economy in the cross-border Greece–Albania region, addressing key waste management challenges. It sets up the Circular Economy and Innovation Centre in Western Macedonia, Greece, which will serve as a hub for research, innovation and training, while advanced waste processing systems will be implemented in the areas of Fier and Pogradec in Albania.
These systems will convert agricultural and algae waste into valuable resources such as fertilizers and livestock bedding. The project places strong emphasis on public awareness, stakeholder engagement and transfer of knowledge through campaigns, workshops and educational programmes in schools.
By integrating sustainable practices and fostering cross-border collaboration, CIRCLE aligns with the EU environmental goals, reduces waste and supports local economies, benefiting communities, businesses and public authorities across the Programme area.
Expected Results
- Strengthened circular waste management practices in the cross-border area.
- Reduction of waste volume and increased utilisation of organic materials
- Establishment and operation of the Circular Economy and Innovation Centre in Western Macedonia.
- Development of innovative products derived from waste (fertilizers, livestock bedding materials).
- Enhanced environmental awareness and citizen participation in sustainability actions.
Expected Benefits
- Promotion of sustainable production and consumption models.
- Knowledge exchange and technological cooperation between Greece and Albania.
- Creation of new green jobs and business opportunities in the circular economy sector.

DIADYMA’s role:
DIADYMA S.A. serves as the Lead Beneficiary of the CIRCLE Project, coordinating all management, implementation, and reporting activities. Drawing on its extensive experience in waste management and EU-funded projects, DIADYMA leads the establishment of the Circular Economy and Innovation Centre in Western Macedonia, Greece — the project’s main infrastructure investment and operational hub. The Centre will function as a regional platform for research, innovation, training, and pilot actions in recycling and resource recovery. Beyond its management duties, DIADYMA ensures that project actions are aligned with EU circular economy policies, provides technical guidance to partners, and facilitates collaboration among stakeholders. It also plays a key role in capacity building and knowledge transfer, supporting the adaptation of innovative waste valorization solutions in both Greece and Albania while ensuring the project’s long-term sustainability and regional impact.
